Thanksgiving Tradition

Every year, for almost ten years now, Breakaway has sponsored a thanksgiving dinner the Friday before Thanksgiving Day. We reach out to the homeless, and those who are in COMCOR and C.A.E. (These are work release jails). Many times these people cannot go home and have a thanksgiving dinner with their families so we provide thanksgiving for them. There are so many families in our community who cannot afford a thanksgiving dinner. We also reach out to halfway houses, rehab centers, the local shelter and the less fortunate under bridges. We have 7 vans that go out the night of the dinner each holding 15 people, but, to accommodate the large number of attendees, we end up having to rent more vans and taking double trips to each location.  For years the dinner would bring about 350 to 450 people, but in 2008 we had over 800 people come out!

In 2009, we did it again! We first gave them a concert with drama and testimonies then pulled an altar call and the altars were full of people who received Jesus as savior! We had turkeys, ham and all the fixings. Organizations from all over Colorado Springs donated food to help us cover the expenses. The donations included turkey’s and food from businesses, pies from restaurants, and soda pop from manufacturers. We are grateful for the generous donations from all of our sponsors.

Every year this dinner gets bigger and bigger, and we are accepting donations of any size to help with the next dinner.

God Bless You!
